Bruce Hoch's Obituary
E. Bruce Hoch, age 74, of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, after a long illness.
Bruce was born in Mexico City, in 1943, to Joel and Edna Hoch. He grew up in Miami, Florida, where he attended the University of Miami and completed his bachelor's degree in English. He went on to earn several graduate degrees, including an MFA in Creative Writing under Padgett Powell at the University of Florida.
He was a fine teacher and a gifted writer who loved passing on his craft to younger writers. He also loved Duke Snider and the Brooklyn Dodgers and was a devout protector of animals.
Bruce is survived by his sister, Diane Ellen Hoch, of Gainesville, and his brother, David Hoch, of Asheville, North Carolina.
A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in B’nai Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi David Kaiman officiating.
