Dear Jan & Sons,

We were saddened to hear of Neal’s passing. Neil and I worked together in Swaziland in early 1980s. Although Neal was the USAID economist for the BLS countries more and more of his time was spent with us on the development plan. We made great progress together and Neal was always a critical part of the program.

Sheila joins me as we express our sorrow at the sad news, Jan, we are thinking of you and your two sons and also remembering the happy times in Swaziland, especially the performances of the Mbabane Theatre Club.

Condolences to the family and friends of Neal. Had not seen Neal in many years but remember his thoughtfulness and zest for life. We ran many road races together and he was one of the original members of the Swamp Stompers stadium exercise group. Truly, a great person.

Dear Jan and family, It is with great sadness that we received the news of Neal's passing. Our sincere condolences to your family, Our prayers are with you. We, the Allen family met Neal and Jan when they came to Swaziland (now Eswatini). They literally brightened up the place with their various activities.....Jan with her love of drama and plays, Neal with hiking and sincere interest in the welfare of the Swazi people. They integrated so well with all of us here, and we have missed them since they left. Neal's battle with cancer was a long, hard fought one. We were all very happy that he persevered and led such a productive, active life despite it. We will all miss him. Jan, please keep communicating with us. Farewell Neal, a wonderful friend, fellow thespian and Rotarian whose whole life was dedicated to Service above Self, the Rotary motto worldwide..
Our time in Swaziland ( Eswatini) was shared friendship through our involvement in the Swaziland Theatre Club, both on stage, back stage in the Pub and numerous social occasions. His performance in Guys and Dolls was a wonder to behold, particularly, as Jan was regarded as the very talented thespian in the family. Our friendship continued through contacts once again when Neall and Jan were stationed in Preoria and he joined a Rotary Club there. I knew the Cohens in Kathmandu where Neal and I did many hikes together around the valley, and later a long trek with Jack up to Lake Gosainkunda and down the Helambu valley. They had already been in Nepal for a year before we arrived, and were very helpful in helping us get settled in and adjusting to the very different country. So sorry to learn of his death, Jan. My Best to you. John

Dear Jan and Cohen family,

I was heartbroken to hear about the passing of Neil. Please accept our deepest condolences during this difficult time. Neil was a remarkable person who touched the lives of so many including mine, not only in United States but across the globe. I was fortunate to have known Neil and glad that our paths crossed. I will always cherish the memories we shared whether in Nepal, or South Africa or in the United States.

My memories of Neal all involve him accompanying Jan to Gainesville Community Playhouse or seeing them out at other theaters. He was so devoted to Jan and supportive if her need to be involved in theater as she was supportive of him in his endeavors. Such an amazing couple! Such a wonderful man!
