Douglas Curtis Hutchinson's Obituary
Douglas Curtis Hutchinson, 62, passed away on October 03, 2020, in Gainesville, Florida. He was born in Ravenna, Ohio on November 23, 1957, to Curtis and Linda Novak Hutchinson. Douglas spent many years in Texas, and then Boynton Beach, Florida. He moved to Gainesville, Florida four years ago.
Douglas earned his bachelor’s degree and was a Real Estate Developer.
Douglas was a larger than life man that always had a project. He never did things halfway. He was a loyal and passionate man who possessed a strong vision for what he wished to see finished, as well as a dry and witty sense of humor. He would always tell his son, “If you have an idea, draw a picture, and then get what you need.” Douglas always had an idea. One of his greatest accomplishments was the restoration of the Burton Farmer’s Gin in Burton, Texas. During his time in Burton he also started the Burton Cotton Gin Festival and worked with youth at the First Baptist Church.
He was a motoring enthusiast and an intrepid petrol head, spending many hours with his sister and his dad out in the garage fixing up cars. A tradition that he carried on with his own son. From racing to repairing, Doug was a natural with anything automotive. He restored everything from Shelby Cobras to BMW’s and always had the next project in the back of his mind. His focus on detail and design was shared with his son, who is due to graduate from Texas A&M engineering early next year due to the skills Doug had passed to him.
Douglas is survived by his wife Erica Sloan Hutchinson; mother, Linda Hutchinson; son, Sheldon Douglas Hutchinson, and his wife Jennifer (née Usmani) Hutchinson; stepson, Adam Strang; sister, Laura, and her daughters.
