It is with great sadness that the brothers of Douglas Scott Houk announce his passing on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Ocala, Florida at age 58. Douglas Scott was born on February 22, 1960, in Nashville, Tennessee. He moved to Gainesville, Florida with his parents in 1977. He is preceded in death by his parents William E. and Mary R. Houk of Gainesville. He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Reed Houk of Nashville, Tennessee and Rick Houk of Little Rock Arkansas. He is survived by his eight nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews. The family would like to pay a special tribute of thanks to Tina Albritten and the Serenity Holistic Residential Care staff for their loving care and persevering goodness to Douglas. Douglas’s dear friend Minnie is also fondly thanked for her lovingkindness. Douglas Scott made us smile and we all became richer for it. The family also owes a great debt of gratitude to too many others for us to name, who sacrificially impacted Douglas Scott to give him a quality life with safety, dignity, and love.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Williams Thomas Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 404 N. Main Street, Gainesville, Florida. Attendees will be offered an opportunity to express their fond memories of Douglas Scott. The family will receive friends immediately before and after the service. No flowers or memorials are necessary.
