Dorothy L. Von Glahn's Obituary
Dorothy L. Von Glahn, age 98, died peacefully in her sleep on December 6, 2016 at Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Gainesville. She was the daughter of Lucy and David Koos, born prematurely at home on June 26, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York. Not expected to survive, she was never issued a birth certificate.
Her devoted daughter, Dorothy M. Lee of Fort White, survives her as well as grandson, Dr. Bjorn Lee (Jayme) of Rockport, Maine; granddaughter, Noelle Lee Okoth (Denis) of New York City and 2 great grandchildren, Alice and Toren Lee. Other survivors include her sisters, Charlotte Henry of Tequesta and Evelyn Knapp (Dick) of Gainesville; best family friend, Don Beardsley and 7 nieces and nephews as well.
Before moving to Harbor Chase, Dorothy lived at The Atrium for 13 years, ten of which she served as librarian. She truly enjoyed “Trivia”, crossword puzzles, all word games and “Jeopardy” as well as Opera and Broadway musicals. Into her final year, she could remember and sing the lyrics of many songs.
Dorothy’s family is sincerely grateful to the entire staff of Harbor Chase Assisted Living for her excellent care and their devotion; especially to Betsy, her wonderful caregiver and many thanks and appreciation to Haven Hospice staff and volunteers for their invaluable kind and generous services.
Burial will take place in Brooklyn, New York at The Cemetery of the Evergreens.
