Dorothy Teh Hou Chen's Obituary
Dorothy Teh Hou Chen (Gainesville) died June 9, 2017. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a landlady extraordinaire, Chinese cooking teacher, realtor, high school math teacher, expert rose and camellia gardener, and one feisty lady!
Dorothy was born in Qingdao, China on August 18, 1928 to Hou Jia Yuan (father) and Hou Chang Yuen (mother). She was the oldest sibling among two brothers, Hou Yi and Hou Wei, and one sister, the late Nancy Liu. She was the wife of the late Dr. Wayne Hwa-wei Chen, former Dean of UF’s College of Engineering.
Survivors include her 3 children- Avis Shirley Chen Boulter, MD (Joe), Benjamin Timothy Chen (Haydee), and David Hoan Chu; 4 grandchildren –Alexis Chen Boulter, Bryan Chen Boulter, Patricia Chu Chen (Fred), and Michael Chu (Tina); 3 great-grandchildren – Evan, Ella, and Madelynn; and her special friend of 50 years, Lisa Tou.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will be private.
The family wishes to thank the many caregivers, nurses, and doctors at the Village, North Florida Regional Medical Center, and Palm Gardens Rehab who took great care of Dorothy.
