Doris Lorain Hoppes' Obituary
Doris Lorain “Do-Do” Hoppes of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19 at the age of 104 years, nine months and fourteen days, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. Doris was born at home on the kitchen table in Oxford, Indiana, the only child of Hubert Emerson Canine and Minnie Stewart Canine.
Doris attended Oxford High School, in Oxford Indiana. She met Earl “Gene” Hoppes at a radio-sponsored barn dance and got married June 12, 1938, shortly after Doris graduated high school. Doris and Gene had two daughters, Rebecca and Melinda.
She was a homemaker and a dairy farmer as well as a bookkeeper and office manager of the local grain elevator in Raub, Indiana.
When they retired from farming in 1982, they moved from Earl Park, Indiana to Gainesville, Florida. Doris and Gene were founding members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. They were married for 67 years, until his passing in 2005.
Doris enjoyed crocheting, crafts, antiques, decorating, gardening, visiting with friends, and a good sale. Most of all, she loved God and her family.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters Rebecca McIntyre of Alpharetta GA, and Melinda Coleman (Mark) of Gainesville FL, grandkids Kevin Coleman (Cheryl) Gainesville FL, Jeff Coleman Orange Park FL, Tanya Magnon (Philip) Alpharetta GA, and Kendra Hogan (Richard) Gainesville FL, as well as six great-grandchildren.
Doris and Gene will be buried together in Oxford Indiana. Services will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Haven Hospice of Gainesville FL.
