Doris Spears Farnbach's Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of Doris Spears Farnbach, who passed away on May 4, 2026, at the age of 92.
Doris was born on January 23, 1934, in Canton, MS to James and Mildred Spears. After graduating from high school, she attended Mississippi University for Women, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education.
Inspired by her sister and brother-in-law, Lamar and Juanita Miller, who were attending school in Gainesville, Doris moved to Gainesville to continue her education. She earned her Master’s degree in education and began her teaching career at Reddick High School.
On June 6, 1959, Doris married Fred Huff Farnbach. They shared 41 years of marriage together until his passing in 2001.
Doris devoted her life to education and to the children and families of Alachua County. She continued teaching in Alachua County schools until she was 90 years old, ending her remarkable career at The Micanopy Cooperative School, where she volunteered, mentored students, and worked with the Blue Wave after-school program. Her dedication, compassion, and encouragement touched generations of students and fellow educators.
Doris is survived by her sister, Juanita Miller; her brother, James “Buddy” Spears; many nieces and nephews; and countless others who considered her family. Her warmth, wisdom, and loving spirit created lasting bonds with all who knew her.
Doris will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to education, her generous heart, and the profound impact she made on so many lives throughout her long and meaningful career.
A memorial service will be held on May 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Evinston Methodist Church, 8505 SE 182 Ave. Micanopy FL 32667.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Centerpoint Cemetery, P.O. Box 339, Evinston, FL, 32633, your local Humane Society or your local hospice organization.
