Dorette Joyce "Mickey" Roquemore's Obituary
Dorette Joyce “Mickey” Roquemore, 88, longtime resident of Chiefland, Florida, died Monday, March 24, 2014, in the Haven Hospice Care Center, Chiefland, following a long illness.
Mrs. Roquemore was born on December 24, 1925 in Slidell, Louisiana to the late Harry and Maude Peterson, she moved to Okeechobee, Florida as a child, and then moved to Miami, where she spent many years. Mickey had worked for Winn-Dixie for over 25 years, until retiring in 1981 as a deli manager. After retirement she came to Chiefland, where she had been an active member, along with her husband, the late John A. Roquemore, of the Chiefland Lions Club. Granny, as she was known to all of her family, took an active role in the lives of all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Edna “Tootsie” Fazekas, a brother, John A. Peterson, and a step-son, Gene Rogers.
She is survived by one daughter, Jo Dean, of Chiefland; a step-daughter, Cheryl Diane Dunn, of Seattle, Wash.; two step-sons, Jerry (Jackie) Rogers, of High Springs, and Wayne Rogers, of Ft. Pierce; grandchildren, Alan (Shannon) Dean, of Gainesville, Joanna (Kevin) Beck, of Chiefland, Jennifer Joyce, of Palm Coast; great grandchildren, Cameron Simmons, Justin Dean, Jordan Dean and Sadie Beck.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 12:30 P. M., in the Nashville City Cemetery, Nashville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
