Dora Shalom's Obituary
Dora Shalom July 7,1927 to July 28,2023 died peacefully after a long illness in Gainesville,
Florida.
Dora was the eldest of four children born in Cuba to Russian immigrants Irene Grimberg and
Jose (Nahum) Lifshitz. In 1950, while visiting cousins in Brooklyn, she met Sol Shlomwitz (later
changed to Shalom), a 25 year old survivor of a Polish ghetto and five concentration camps.
Their only common language at the time was Yiddish.
Sol and Dora lived in Cuba, Israel, Brooklyn and Miami. Family and Jewish life was central to
both Sol and Dora.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Sol Shalom, parents Irene and Nahum
Lifshitz and sisters Leah Lifshitz, and Sara Lelchuck.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Drs. Rose and David Halperin (Durham,
NC) Rebeca Shalom and Rabbi David Kaiman (Gainesville FL), and Ralph Shalom and Lili Levi
(Coral Gables, Florida)
Her grandchildren who called her Bobe: Joel Kaiman and Bethanie Barber (Orlando, FL), Rabbi
Daniel Kaiman and Rachel Gold (Tulsa OK) and Nina Shalom (FL and Mass)
Her four great grandchildren, to whom she was Alte Bobe.
Her brother and Sister in law: Shmuel and Yudit Lifshitz (Ashdod, Israel)
And her devoted nieces and nephews in New Jersey, New York and Israel
Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Miami Fl, on Monday July 31, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
