Donald Clyde Johnson, Sr.'s Obituary
Donald Clyde Johnson, Sr., age 62, died April 15, 2016 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida due to injuries sustained in an accident April 8, 2016.
D.C. was born on July 29, 1953 at Alachua General Hospital and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1971. He joined the United States Navy in July of 1971 as TMO2 EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal), and served until 1976. In March of 1976 he joined the Alachua County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff, and served for 15 years, retiring as a Sergeant.
He took pride in his work as a mentor for the Florida Youth Challenge Academy and earned his Master’s in marksmanship and went on to win numerous awards. He was a Master Mason, a member of the R.T. Schafer Lodge in Gainesville.
D.C. is survived by two sons, Donald Clyde Johnson, Jr. and William “Billy” Johnson, and by his loving companion, Rose Marie Jones, as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Clyde J. Johnson and Ethel L. McRae Johnson.
DC did not fear death. His main priorities were God and Country. He appreciated being "blessed with a wonderful life and said it was one hell of a ride, so don’t cry about it, just drink one for me and know that I'll always be with each and every one of you, watching your back - I love you all and God bless - Go Gators!"
Services for Mr. Johnson will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., at WILLIAMS THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Central with military honors and Masonic rites. Friends will gather Friday, April 22, 2016, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
