Diane Jean Young's Obituary
Diane Jean Young completed her journey on earth on November 22, 2023 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. Her journey began in Winner, South Dakota on March 14, 1956. Growing up on a farm on the great plains of South Dakota where landownership is expressed in Sections rather than acreage, she developed that strength and resilience which is characteristic of her forbearers and so very much admired by all of us.
Diane graduated from the University of South Dakota with a B.S. in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Biomedical Technology in 1978. She began her professional career with the VA Hospital in Hot Springs, SD. However, opportunity presented itself and she embarked on an adventure which took her to Kwajalein in the South Pacific to be a Medical Technologist. It was here that a girl from SD and a young man from FL made a connection that would result in a 39 year marriage which was a true partnership of love and friendship. They settled in Gainesville where Diane rose to the position of Ancillary Testing Coordinator for the North Florida/South Georgia Regional VA Hospital.
Diane loved reading good books, providing clever handmade cards for many occasions for friends and family, and gardening. Diane was an avid Gator fan and both she and Bruce were members of the Howling Pack of the University of South Dakota Coyotes.
She is predeceased by her parents, Donald and Ama Jean Roosa, her Uncle Cliff and Aunt Annie Roosa, her Mother and Father-in-Law Mary Ann and Bernard Young, and her brother-in- law, Steve Young.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce A. Young, her brother Roger Roosa (Kitty) Sequim, WA, her sisters-in-law Judy Dykes (David), Frisco, TX, Penny Johnston (Brian) Saint Simons Island, GA, and Holly Krim (Joe) Ocala, FL; nephews Lex Dykes of Pleasant Valley, MO, Jake Krim (Annie) of Ocala, FL, nieces Juli Dykes and Jani Dykes of McKinney, TX, Casey Dykes of Lewisville TX, Kaley Taccetta (Vincent) of Gotha, FL, and grandnephews Alex Dykes of Kansas City, MO, Michael Taccetta, Eli Taccetta, James Taccetta, and grandniece Gracie Taccetta of Gotha, FL and grandniece Willow Dykes of Lewisville, TX.
Our ray of sunshine will be greatly missed by all of us left behind.
