Mr. Dewayne Francis Cowart Sr.'s Obituary
Dewayne Francis Cowart, Sr., 76, longtime resident of Hawthorne, Florida, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mr. Cowart was born in Waldo, Florida on July 7, 1941 to the late Howell and Rachel Cowart. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and had served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Cowart worked as a letter carrier in Gainesville for 37 years until his retirement in 2001. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Paran Baptist Church, Grandin. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred McNeil.
Survivors include; two daughters, Deborah (Binion) Waters, LaCrosse, and Melanie Robin (Doug) Mercer, Gainesville; a son, Wayne (Laura) Cowart, Gainesville; a brother, David (Kathy) Cowart, of Keystone Heights; Eight grandchildren, Todd, Travis, Tiffany, Darrin, Kyle, Rance, Shannon and Cerra. Thirteen great grandchildren also survive.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., in the Hawthorne Cemetery, with Rev. Charles Litzell officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
