DeVaughn Slone's Obituary
DeVaughn Slone, 72, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 4th, 2018. He was born in rural Pinetop, KY on July 28th, 1946 to Johnie and Marie Slone. He married his soul mate, Mary Lynn Slone on September 10, 1967. Mr. Slone was first and foremost a loving father and nurturer to his two children and a loving "Pops" to his grandchildren. In 1976, the family moved from Rockville, IN to Gainesville, FL where he soon began a career at the North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center from which he retired. During this time, he developed strong working relations and lasting friendships that he cherished.
Mr. Slone is survived by his daughter, Holly (Mike) Nora; son, John Slone; four grandchildren, Kenzie Nora, Chandler Slone, Lexi Slone and Ashton Slone; brother, David Slone, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The celebration of DeVaughn Slone's precious life will be held on Saturday, August 11th, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street. A celebration of DeVaughn’s life will continue at Lillian’s Music Store at 112 SE 1st Street, Gainesville, FL. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ACLU or a charity of your choice.
