Dennis Joseph Macaluso, 66, of Alachua, FL passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at UF Health Shands Hospital after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle accident with a drunk driver on March 15.
He was born November 16, 1947 in Erie, PA to Joseph Anthony and Matilda Dolores Lauretta Macaluso. Since moving to Florida in 1983, Dennis was proud to serve Alachua and the surrounding counties as President of Gainesville Pump. He lived a life of passion and adventure, and died doing what he loved to do. He enjoyed restoring, driving and racing vintage motorcycles and cars. He was a member of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association, the American Poolplayers Association and the R.T. Schafer Masonic Lodge. Dennis was a selfless man who genuinely cared for others. He always gave freely of himself and encouraged others to do the same. He was a devout family man who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Copestake Macaluso; children, Stephanie Bartolo, Tony Macaluso, Trisha Hogan, Julia Macaluso and Jimmy Copestake; sister, Rose Anderson; brothers, George Macaluso, Joe Macaluso and Kevin Macaluso; and six grandchildren (with one on the way).
A Life Celebration Service will be held Monday, March 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN at 404 North Main Street, with Fr. Tim Lozier officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the day of the service from noon to 2 p.m.
