Delores Johnsen Crago's Obituary
Delores Johnsen Crago, 93, of Homewood, Alabama (formerly of Gainesville, Florida) died on September 24, 2018. She is survived by her children Karen Crago of Saugus, MA, Jean Crago of Vestavia, AL, and Dan Crago (wife Georgina) of Tampa, FL. Mrs. Crago also had 4 grandchildren: Cristina Duncan (husband Eric) of St. Louis, MO, Vicky Washburn (husband Paul) of Denver, CO, Curtis Simonson (wife Satoko) of San Jose, CA, and Julia Simonson of Seattle, WA, 2 great grandsons, Shin Simonson and Connor Duncan, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crago is predeceased by her husband, John Crago, her parents, John and Julia (Bartylla) Johnsen and her four sisters, Loretta Filla, Violet Smith, Hattie Walsh and Margaret Johnson.
Mrs. Crago was born in Bemidji, Minnesota, on November 4, 1924. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Nursing School and moved to New York, NY, to work at New York Hospital, where she met, and later married, John Crago. Mrs. Crago maintained contact with former nursing school classmates throughout her life.
Mrs. Crago was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her family. Mrs. Crago was a member of the Alachua General Hospital Auxiliary and Florida Museum of Natural History volunteer. She also ran the infant and toddler nursery at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Bushnell, Florida, followed by burial in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 N Main Street. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to The Foundation Hope Lodge in Tampa, 12810 USF Magnolia Drive , Tampa, FL 33612.
