Dave was my very good friend since first moving to Archer with my family well over 40 years ago now. We shared so many events and activities together during that time; from the Gator bowl in Jacksonville to the State Fair in Tampa, to the countless sporting events, restaurants, art shows, flea markets, etc in the greater Gainesville area. So many, many fond memories. He was really a jack of all trades when it came to fixing things. I don't know how many household items he repaired for me through the years. I was always impressed with how much of his time and efforts he gave to helping others regardless of his own schedule.
In addition to all of the outdoor activities which he enjoyed he also liked to play cards. I know that we must have spent hundreds of hours together as couples doing so. I was usually his partner and not too good at some of the games. However, several years ago we were playing a new game and I got lucky and our team won several weeks. The next time we played he presented me with a trophy! Its quite nice actually - a silver cup mounted on an oak pedestal with the notation: "RON FOWLER CROWN CHAMP". It sits on a shelf in my office and reminds me of Dave's since of humor and now also the loss of my very dear friend.
