David S. Perrin's Obituary
David S. Perrin (03/29/1927 – 01/19/2019)
David Sterling Perrin, longtime Gainesville resident was born in Potsdam, NY then moved to Miami, FL in 1940. He was a patriot and part of the great generation and entered the Navy at 17 to serve his country in World War 2. He then attended University of Florida earning a Master’s degree in Education. There he met the love of his life, Helen E. Bell, was married and together became proud, dedicated parents to four children: Walter, Stephen, Kathy and David Perrin.
Over his 40-year career in education he taught honors history then served as Assistant Principal at Miami Beach High School from 1964 – 1984. He believed strongly that quality public education was a right for all. He also served as department head of Social Sciences, head of the National Honor Society and golf coach. Always a loyal Gator fan, he and his wife moved to Gainesville, FL after retiring. He was a Gator Booster, member of the UF Grand Guard, and the Gator Quarterback Club. Both he and his wife Helen were active members of the Gainesville Country Club and First Presbyterian Church. He was kind, jovial and liked by everyone he met.
He succumbed to complications of Alzheimer’s disease on January 19, 2019. He will be sorely missed. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen, his children Kathy, Stephen and Walter Perrin. He is survived by his son Dr. David Perrin and grandchildren Tiffany, Stephen, and Andrew Perrin.
