David Michael Goff's Obituary
David Michael Goff, 69 of Gainesville passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born March 19, 1954 In Jacksonville, FL. He grew up in McAlpin, FL. and Gainesville, Fl. He graduated from Gainesville High School.
Mike, as he was known to friends and family, started working as a young man at Ira’s Gulf Station as an ASE Certified Auto Mechanic. He was a member of the original group who started the Gainesville Lid Plant for the Metal Container Corporation in 1982 where he had an impressive career as a Mechanic / Millwright. He worked there until his retirement in 2016.
Mike loved the outdoors, fishing, and off-road motorcycling. He taught his son and grandchildren that the beauty of the natural world and the love we show one another are the most precious things on earth. He was a talented mechanic and loved to restore old cars and jeeps. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and was a member of the Flying Gators RC club. He also enjoyed feeding wild birds at his home in Gainesville and growing citrus trees.
He is survived by his son, David “Matt” Goff (Laurie); his sister, Darlene Cannon (Dale); his nephew Marc Cannon (Jessica); and his two grandsons, David Mason Goff and Daniel Matthew Goff who he had tremendous fun with playing like a little kid and just being silly.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jane Marie Hulslander Goff. Jane was a Homemaker who loved quilting and was an amazing cook in the delicious tradition of French cuisine and of course, Southern cuisine. Mike and Jane were high school sweethearts who had an enduring love for one another that was truly special.
