David Earl Fowler's Obituary
David Earl Fowler, a brilliant inventor, courageous entrepreneur, and devoted husband to the love of his life, passed away peacefully at his home in Gainesville, Florida, on April 16, 2026. He was 76 years old.
Born in Avon Park and raised in Jacksonville, David’s intellectual gifts were evident early in life. He attended North Carolina State University on a full scholarship before returning to his Florida roots to earn his graduate degree from the University of Florida. A lifelong Gator fan, David’s connection to Gainesville remained a central part of his identity.
David was a true visionary and a "serial entrepreneur" in every sense of the word. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as the CEO of five successful companies. As an inventor, he was driven by a unique blend of talent and tenacity, most notably developing one of the first saliva tests for HIV, and being on the team awarded with the prestigious Patent No. 5,000,000. These were a testament to a mind that never stopped searching for better ways to solve complex problems.
Beyond his professional accolades, David was a man of deep spiritual and metaphysical conviction. He found his greatest joy in the quiet moments on the lake at the home he shared with his wife, Melanie. It was there, amidst the peace and solitude of the water, that David felt most at home. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a man of immense courage and profound kindness.
David’s legacy of brilliance and care lives on through his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Melanie; his children through marriage, Hayden and his wife Laura, Mark and his wife Melanie, Drew, and Elle; and his cherished grandchildren, Jax and Jet. He was preceded in death by his mother, Althea Fowler.
In keeping with David’s love for the tranquility of his home, the family will hold a private service on the lake to honor his life and memory.
