We were in jazz band together in high school and developed a good friendship in university. We were estranged friends as life moved on, but history is important. Dan, you taught me many things: how to Carve a jack-o-lantern, how to play darts, how to shoot a snake gun. Thanks for always letting me sing and jam with you, and thanks for spending countless times accompanying me for sushi. My condolences to all who were blessed by the soul of this musically talented and gentle giant. May your soul rest in peace.

Dan. I don't know what to say as I sit here still in disbelief. To many years have passed since we have spoken. Still, that doesn't take away from the memories we and all of our mutual child hood friends created. All the mischief we got ourselves into. All the good times. It is true unfortunately, life really does get in the way.

Dan was my friend in elementary school. We played together in ukulele class and laughed endlessly as we passed notes to each other with naughty words on them. He was my friend in high school when we played in the jazz band together. We enjoyed many teenage rites of passage together. My world view was molded in deep conversations with his Dan and his Mom and Dad who always had a place for me at the dinner table and treated me like family. We were friends that grew up together, celebrating the highs and consoling each other though the lows. Dan was my best friend. Then life happened. It's been 15 years since we've spoken. I would consistently and joyfully pine that one day we were going to catch up, reminisce and celebrate our lives and progress from naughty well intentioned kids to naughty well intentioned adults. That day is not coming now and it couldn't hurt more. For what it's worth thank you for the great memories and the indelible impression you left on me as a human being. Until our souls cross paths again.

I haven't seen Big Dan in years. He was a great guy, a great friend, and I have lots of great memories from when we were stupid teenagers. His passing is a loss to all who knew him.
