Daniel David Dewey's Obituary
Daniel David Dewey was born December 28th, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to
Frederick Dewey and Elizabeth Gettner. He spent his formative years at
Hope Farm and went on to become an all-star athlete at Greer High
School. Dan served in the United States Air Force as a Munitions
Specialist, a.k.a. Bomb Tech, in North Africa and Vietnam. He
Graduated from Pace College in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts and SUNY –
Albany in 1974 with a Masters in Library Science. Dan went on to an
esteemed career as a Research Librarian at the Southwestern Virginia
Training Center and North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center.
Dan’s compassion for his fellow earthlings was immediately apparent.
From his work with mentally handicapped people at the Training Center
to his establishment of a mental health bibliotherapy program at the
Evaluation and Treatment Center, his interest in the enlightenment and
well being of others was always at the forefront. Whether on the short
end of his sharp wit, recipient of his prolific artwork or around his
warm smile and kind heart, it was difficult to come away from Dan
without a lasting impression. He was a Philosopher King in the truest
sense - a man of intellect and action, an artist, a writer, a
philosopher and a soldier. The world is darker without him, but those
of us who knew and loved him are forever brighter because of his time
here. He will be missed by many, especially Spencer.
