Daniel "Dan" J. Sheehan's Obituary
Dan Sheehan, age 83, passed away on December 26, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Arlington, MA, on December 29, 1934, raised in Cambridge, MA, and moved to Gainesville, FL, in 1966. He worked for the City of Gainesville at Deerhaven Power Plant for 25 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for over 50 years.
Dan was proud of the time he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Leyte as well as his Irish heritage. He was a lifelong fan of New England sports teams. He had a deep love for his family, which included 7 children.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Ruth (Watson) Sheehan as well as his children and their spouses, which include Dan (Holly) Sheehan, Ed (Donna) Sheehan, Kevin (Elizabeth) Sheehan, Tim (Samatha) Sheehan, Noreen (Joseph) Conn, Brian (Wendy) Sheehan, and Terry (Eleni) Sheehan. He is also survived by two sisters, Maureen Sheehan-Carney and Patricia Glynn, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 500 NE 16th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601. The family will receive friends Friday, December 28, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
