DaCosta Mondell (D.M.) Cellon Jr.'s Obituary
MSG (Retired) DaCosta Mondell Cellon (D.M.) Jr. age 99 passed away on Friday October 6th, 2023. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on October 29th, 1923 to DaCosta M. and Jewell Cellon.
D.M. moved to Gainesville, FL in 1936 and was a graduate of Gainesville High School Class of 1941. He served with the United States Army as an Armor Crewman in Germany during World War 2. D.M. retired from the United States Postal Service with 32 years of service and the United States Army Reserve with 28 years of service.
He loved to hunt and fish in his younger years. D.M. and Mildred spent one week a month camping at St. Augustine Beach, FL.
D.M. was a long time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Boy Scout Leader when their sons were Boy Scouts.
D.M. is survived by his loving wife of 80 years, Mildred; son, Don Cellon and wife Tootsie; granddaughter, Kimberly Briede and husband Steve; grandson, Paul Cellon; granddaughter, Christina Waterhouse and husband Brett; grandson, Chris Cellon; great granddaughters, Breanna and Megan Waterhouse and Amber Cellon; great grandsons; Cody and Garrett Cellon; great great granddaughter, Ella Grace Boyd.
He is preceded in death by his parents DaCosta M. and Jewell Cellon; his brothers, Dewitt and Kenneth Cellon and his sons Jim and Craig Cellon.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 3612 NW 177th Ave. Gainesville, FL. Dr. Don McGarity will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, 404 N. Main St., Gainesville, FL.
