Cynthia Northrup Mason's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Cynthia Northrup Mason on April 1, 2025, at the age of 66. Cindy’s kindness, laughter and love, touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Cindy fought a courageous battle with breast cancer and took on each day with amazing grace and strength. She was a compassionate and caring wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, known for her bright smile and the ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. Her heart was as big as her love for life, and she made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Cindy leaves behind her adoring husband, Frank Mason; son and daughter-in-law, Logan and Courtney Mason; daughter and son-in-law Ashton and Marcos Sanchez, and grandchildren, Bristol Rae Mason, Archer Jackson Mason and arriving soon Lorelai Cynthia Sanchez. Cindy’s family will forever carry her love in their hearts and cherish her endearing memory each and every day.
Cindy was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Judy & David Roellig, and she leaves behind sister Colette Gregory (preceded in death by brother-in-law Ken); sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Scott Willoughby-Ray; and many nieces, nephews, cousins as well as her beloved extended beach family.
Cindy worked many years in her family’s business designing and constructing golf courses across the globe. She took a lot of pride in the artistry and detail required by her job, and she loved working closely with her father and mother, Ward and Myrna Northrup, who preceded her in death. She took time to raise her family where she was a constant protector and supporter for Logan and Ashton throughout their early years. She attended classroom, sporting, cheerleading, and music events while having such a good time with all those around her. For the last 17 years, Cindy worked at the University of Florida’s UF Health, Shands Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Department, where her dedication and passion played a crucial role in helping the team provide exceptional care to children and their families fighting unimaginable challenges. Cindy’s contributions to her team were vital to the smooth operation of the unit, and she was deeply respected by her colleagues.
Cindy was a huge fan of the Florida Gators, and anyone who knew her knew that Saturdays in the Fall were reserved for tailgating and cheering on her favorite team. She wore her orange and blue with great pride and the family attended many Gator sporting events through the years, both near and far. Cindy was a founding member of the Triad Gator Booster Club, located in the High Point/Greensboro/Winston-Salem, North Carolina area and was most currently a member of the Gainesville Quarterback Club which is the oldest Gator Football support organization in the world.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Evans Champions Club at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (the Swamp), where we will celebrate Cindy’s life with fellowship, music, stories, laughter and plenty of incredible memories, just the way Cindy wanted. Please wear pink for breast cancer awareness or orange and blue for the Florida Gators. The facility will open at approximately 12:00 pm. One of Cindy’s colleagues recently wrote that Cindy “was not just a colleague; she was the heart of their team, the one who kept everything together, always ready with a warm greeting, a word of encouragement, or a steady hand when things got tough. She was the bright smile you walked into the office to face, no matter what the day ahead might bring. Even if you came in stressed, frustrated, or with a complaint, Cindy’s presence made it all feel just a little bit better. Her positivity, her unwavering dedication, and her ability to make each of us feel valued will forever be a lasting legacy for all of us. In honor of Cindy and the incredible impact she had on each of us, we are starting The Heart of the Team award. This will serve as a tribute to Cindy’s spirit and the role she played in uniting and uplifting this team. This award will recognize those who, like Cindy, embody the values of kindness, hard work, and selflessness that made her the cornerstone of our Division. It's a small way for us to carry on her legacy and ensure that her heart lives on within us”.
This was the way Cindy Northrup Mason lived her life, in support of others, always listening, caring and willing to help anyone. She will be missed greatly. She truly was an angel amongst us while on earth.
A fund is being endowed in Cindy’s honor which will provide funds to support the Heart of the Team award. Consequently, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to: https://everloved.com/life-of/cynthia-mason/?flow=201
