I would be remiss were I not to share a brief but telling anecdote about Cindy. When ACEA was in the midst of salary negotiations in 2000-2001 and Gunnar, as president, was spearheading the struggle to stabilize, once and for all, the salary schedule, he was strategizing all night in his sleep. We called one another around 5:00 a.m. every day. Sometimes he was in the kitchen, but often he was in the garage lifting weights and it was Cindy who answered. Mind you, this was before either he or I had anything but a landline. Though she had clearly been yanked from a deep sleep, never was she anything but gracious and she got out of her comfortable bed to find Gunnar wherever he might be. Cindy was entirely committed to whatever Gunnar was committed to. What greater love and loyalty could ever be?
