Cresswell Edward Stedman Jr.'s Obituary
Cresswell Edward Stedman, Jr., age 90, of Lake Alto, FL, passed on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center. Mr. Stedman was born October 10, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Cresswell Edward Stedman, Sr. and Elizabeth Kimbell Stedman.
After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was stationed in China for 3 years after World War II. After service, he graduated from the University of Miami with a double major in economics and finance. He then worked on Wall Street for several years and returned to South Florida where he was hired by The Chase Manhattan Bank to restore distressed properties in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. Thereafter, he started Stedman Construction Corp. in Miami, FL, building single homes, and later, office-warehouse complexes.
Cress and his wife moved to Gainesville in 2001 to retire. He was a conservationist and an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara Kay Stedman; children Mark Stedman, Peter Stedman, Dawn Arnold, Captain Christopher Schaffer, USCG (ret) and James Schaffer; sister, Joyce Corwin Scott, and grandchildren, Rhiannon, Brooke, Samantha, Peyton, CJ, Katy, William and Harold.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the NRA www.nra.org, Ducks Unlimited, www.ducks.org, or The Nature Conservancy, www.nature.org.
