Wow... I just learned of this :( I will never forget the first day I met Jack at Vortez Springs, and coaxed him and Jackie in to doing a drysuit course with me.... what a wonderful guy, friend, fellow diver... and extraordinary human being. You will be missed xxx
Completely devastated to learn of Jack's passing. I worked for Jack at FLETC right out of college. He and Jackie were like family for me for the year I worked there. Jackie my heart aches for you. He was a one of a kind, an amazing man. God bless The Gregory family.

One family's fine memories of a great guy, Jumpin Jack Gregory, from Kevin, Steph and daughter Heather Manson
One of the best tributes to Jumpin' Jack has been the wonderful kind of people who loved, hung out with, and appreciated Jumpin' Jack --- his beautiful family, also his slightly crazy friends (like me, my wife and daughter) and his professional law enforcement colleagues. Many memories from our family with Jack, Jackie and Erin at their homes and at football games where Erin and Heather played in the Glynn Academy band (and Erin convincing Heather to join the the band - for which her mom and dad have been forever grateful) As a fellow staff member at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, I always admired Jack's 'get it done and take care of your people' management approach. As a fellow technical and cavern diver I truly understood the lure of and Jack's love for the wonders of the underwater world. We were all better persons knowing Jack and the memories of his 'Buba' trucks, fireworks in his front yard, outrageous hair, a great heart and forward charging, life lovin' lifestyle are all great memories. Our heart felt caring go with you Jackie and Erin.
Jackie and Erin, I had the pleasure and honor to work with your husband and father for many years in the R8 Regional Office -- both times he worked there. Jack had an unsurpassed zest for life. He was so very dedicated to his profession of Law Enforcement as well as to the Forest Service workforce and the public, yet he was even more committed to the men and women he served the most: the Special Agents and Law Enforcement Officers of the USFS Southern Region. I worked in the labor and employee relations part of the Human Resources Office in Atlanta. Jack's management style was both tough and compassionate with his staff across the region---I saw various times when he was justified to be the former and he elected to be the latter. Moreover, Jack knew how to cooperate with and gain the cooperation of a very active labor union. He established the first labor-management partnership council within the law enforcement community back in the 1990s. This effort was so successful that the Council won the USFS "Partnership Council of the Year" award. Sharing just a memory is too hard as I have so many... My heart goes out to you, Jackie and Erin, and ever since I heard of Jack's death, not a day has gone by that you haven't been in my heart and my warmest thoughts. I worked with Jack during the last eight or so of both our careers. Being around him, almost daily, was so special to me. We shared laughs, for sure, and we goaded each other, always in a playful and understanding way, about so many subjects for which we were seemingly night and day, especially. But, he also shared with me the way he approached so many different aspects of his life - full speed ahead! I've met few people who were as knowledgeable as Jack. He knew, as they say, 'chapter and verse' of just about any facet of law enforcement or the many regulations surrounding personnel issues for law enforcement personnel, but all of personnel management and so many other topics. I know there are likely people who saw him as so hard-nosed, and he was when it was required. But he had a softer side as well and I was so blessed to have seen and felt that. We corresponded after retirement and spent a little time together, but not nearly enough. I will treasure all he was and know when he did leave this part of his life to go to the next plane, he went with his flippers on and full speed ahead! There is not enough space to tell all the attributes and crazy stories about Jack. I was around him with the FS for 20 years before retiring in 2004. My wife and I visited with him and his family a couple of times within the past few years. He was an intelligent and unique person with a heart bigger than Texas. He had a lot to do with advancing the FS law enforcement program and he continued caring for the agency and its officers well after he retired. He was known by many names Wacky Jack, Jumpin Jack, etc but I once named him Agent Orange after his hair dye turned him the color of a Florida Orange. His smile and laugh said a lot about him. No words are adequate express the deep sadness at the loss of a friend, a great man and a great leader. Not only was Jack a very competent and true professional, but he always looked out for, and took care of his "people". A year after I retired Jack still took the time to do most for the paperwork to get me the 6C retirement. A rare man indeed. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by any who knew him. I pray for the Lord to comfort his family, to soften your grief and give you some solace in knowing that Jack will be missed and was loved by so many who knew him.
