Clifford Wayne Shewan Colonel (Ret) USAF 1922-2017
Retired Air Force Colonel Clifford Shewan, a World War II and Vietnam
veteran, died on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Gainesville, Florida. He was 94 years old.
Colonel Shewan enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was commissioned in 1943 when he received his wings as an aerial navigator. He flew combat missions from Africa, Italy and England in 1943 and 1944 and flew combat missions from Thailand in 1967 and 1968. Among his medals are the Air Medal, Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.
Colonel Shewan was a graduate of Cal State-Sacramento and Princeton University, the Air Force Command and Staff College and the Air War College.
He is survived by his son, Larry Shewan, of Virginia and his daughter, Dr. Mary Ann Nelson, of Gainesville, Florida. He is further survived by his 4 grand¬daughters and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and his son, Thomas.
Colonel Shewan will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
