Claude Calvin "Corky" Springs Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Claude Calvin “Corky” Springs, Jr., 80, or Archer, Florida, died Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in the Haven Hospice of the Tri-Counties, Chiefland, following a brief illness.
Mr. Springs was born on February 22, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to the late Claude, Sr. and Eva Springs. He grew up in Jacksonville ,Florida, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, and then began a long career with the Jacksonville Fire Department, working up to the rank of Captain, and retiring in 1990. Corky was a man of faith, having been very active in his local churches as well as the Florida Baptist Convention and Lifeway Christian Resources in music and Sunday School. He was a member and deacon of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Archer. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing as well as football and baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lydia Boals Springs; by one son, Anthony Alan (Sheila) Springs, of Archer; a granddaughter, Haley Springs; his father –in-law, Rev. O. E. Boals, (Velvehree), along with a host of extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 A. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, with Rev. O. E. Boals and Rev. Warren Gilpin, officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5 to 7 P. M., at the funeral home.
