Claude Allen Carter, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Claude Allen Carter, Sr., 77, of Hawthorne, Florida, died Friday, January 2, 2026, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Carter was born in Waycross, Georgia on July 19, 1948, to the late Frank Allen and Ruby Inez Carter. He had a long career as a millwright, which moved him and his family all over the country, before settling in Hawthorne area in the late 1980’s. Mr. Carter was a proud member of the National Rifle Association, and enjoyed anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was of the Baptist faith. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Virgie Deanna Breeden, and by seven of his siblings, Herbert Griffin, Inez Lucas Myers, Rhonda Carter Leverett, Ruby Jean Carter Lee, Vickie Sue Carter Copeland and Cole Wiley Carter.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judith Ann Carter; his son, Claude Allen, “Clay” Carter, Jr., and his wife Kristina, of Wellborn; daughters, Annette Bass and Anita Wicker, both of Hawthorne; son, David Hamm, Jr., and his wife Opal; a sister, Agnes Carter, of Waycross, GA, a brother, Dennis Frank Carter and his wife Karen, of Jacksonville; his grandchildren, Hailey Mayo and her husband Shawn, Damien Carter, Dillian Breeden, Quinn Bass, and Jonathan, Jason, Justin and Jeremy Hamm; two great grandchildren, Shawn, III and Stetson Mayo, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Hawthorne, 301 South at Lake Avenue, with Pastor Clint Carter, officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorne Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 P.M.
