Clarice Geraldine Malphurs Windham's Obituary
Clarice Geraldine Malphurs Windham, 96, passed away peacefully at 6:00 pm on May 22, 2018 in Leesburg, Florida with two of her children by her side. Mrs. Windham was born in Waldo, Florida to Jennings Oliver Malphurs and Addie McDavid Malphurs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Millard Windham in 1994 and her three siblings: Addie Fair Pickett, Jennings Oliver (J.O.) Malphurs, and Gloria June Price. She lived in Waldo 37 years, Wildwood 41 years, Melrose 10 years, Gainesville 6 years, and Leesburg 2 years.
Mrs. Windham was a homemaker and for many years worked as a real estate agent, primarily in Sumter County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wildwood and later Trinity Baptist Church in Keystone Heights where she especially loved and enjoyed her Sunday School Class. She loved working in the yard and growing vegetables, and in her 80s tended and raised butterflies. She loved Waldo and the people of Waldo, and loved telling long-ago stories about her life amidst family, friends, and neighbors there.
She was devoted to God and to family, immediate and extended. Her greatest earthly joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was kind, honest, and self-reliant, and believed in standing up for what was right. She loved people and people were often drawn to her unique style and character. Until God took her last breath, she never gave up. The golden thread woven throughout her life was that she bore all things, believed all things, hoped all things, and endured all things. She is cherished by her family and friends, and will be sorely missed until the time we all meet again.
Mrs. Windham is survived by her children - Tracey Ann Norwood (Larry) of Punta Gorda, Marcia Gail Hensley (Roger – deceased) of Alachua, Clarice Amelia Carlton (Oliver) of Leesburg, and Troy Randall “Randy” Windham (Susan) of Burke, Virginia – and 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rosamond DeSha, of Winter Garden.
Funeral services will be held at the Antioch Baptist Church, 3612 NW 177 Avenue, in Gainesville, on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held immediately before at 10:30 a.m.
