Christopher Paul Carter's Obituary
Christopher Paul Carter, age 44, transitioned into Heaven’s eternal joy on Friday, June 16, 2023 after a three month battle with cancer.
Born on July 31, 1978 in Houston, Texas, Christopher is survived by his wife, Melissa Ann Gant Carter; their daughter, Isabel Alexandra; and their son, Samuel David; his mother, Debbie Cheryl Carter; and his sister, Jennifer Rebecca Barnett and husband Jason Cory Barnett. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Lelen Carter, Jr.
Christopher graduated from the College of Charleston, where he majored in Physics and served as the President of the Baptist Student Union. He met his beloved wife Melissa at the College of Charleston and they married on January 17, 2004. In college, Christopher felt a call to the ministry and was ordained in 2005, and moved to Columbia, South Carolina to plant a church. In 2008 Christopher had a life changing prayer encounter with the Lord and began using the eyes of his heart to see Father, Holy Spirit, and Jesus, the holy angels and heaven. His joy of those experiences could not be contained, and soon he was sharing how to intimately experience the Lord through the imagination with his closest friends and family. The joys, discoveries, and intimacy built with the Lord grew and Christopher began teaching others through the Discover the Heavens ministry and speaking events. He authored 6 books: Caught Up in the Spirit, In the Palaces of Heaven, Cosmic Shift, Angels All Around Us (Children’s book), Cosmic Journey: An Illustrated Guide to the Stars and Planets, and The Story of Angels and Nature.
Driven by curiosity, he was an explorer at heart: asking the hard questions and peering deeply into life’s deepest questions. Christopher was a student of astronomy, literature, Celtic Christianity, and his favorite authors: Art Katz, Owen Barfield, and C.S. Lewis. He loved the night sky, watching storms and aquatic life and had a heart for Israel. He was a navigator in his essence, gently and courageously guiding others through learning and experiencing the Lord. Most of all, he loved Melissa and his children with the fullness of his heart: his wit, humor, and larger-than-life personality brought adventure into all of their days.
A private burial at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery and funeral service at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. The public Celebration of Life worship event will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, time and location will be updated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to DiscoverTheHeavens.org.
