Cheryl "Cheri" Young's Obituary
Cheryl Louise Harvey Young, age 77, of Melrose, Florida, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born in Sanger, California on November 16, 1947, to Lawrence Calvin and Ailene Ridder Harvey. “Cheri” spent her early childhood in Garrett County (Oakland), Maryland and then moved to Hypoluxo, FL (Palm Beach County). Following high school she spent the majority of her life in Gainesville, FL and for the past 5 years has lived near Melrose, FL.
Cheri was a Public Information Officer at the City of Gainesville-City Manager’s Office for 20 years. She was a very creative and artistic person that excelled in many types of arts and crafts. She especially liked creating beaded jewelry. She was also very good at interior design and cooking. Cheri was the best at making a house a “home”. During retirement, she enjoyed vacationing in Garrett County, Maryland where she had many friends and family. She is missed very much.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Cory Robert Young; daughter, Sandy (Karatee) Banks; son, Michael Aaron (Ruth Peacock) Tilghman; grandchild, Kyler Crusoe Banks; brothers, Ed (Kathy) Harvey, Roger (Lynn) Harvey and loving nieces and nephews.
A Service to honor and celebrate Cheryl’s life will be held Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams-Thomas Downtown Chapel, 404 North Main Street, with Dr. Don McGarity officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Following the service on Friday, there will be food and fellowship at the same location.
