Chen-Chi Hsu's Obituary
Chen-Chi Hsu, 89, of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Penghu, Taiwan on September 20, 1935, to Ling Hsien Hsu and Li Kuai Hsu. The youngest of thirteen, Chen-Chi attended National Taiwan University, earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1957. He earned a Master of Science in Engineering in 1961 and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1965 from the University of Michigan.
In 1978, he joined the faculty at the University of Florida in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, remaining a Professor Emeritus following his retirement in 2006. His research interests included computational fluid dynamics, engineering mechanics and applied mathematics.
Chen-Chi loved his family, work, gardening, music, and college sports. He became an avid Michigan fan during his graduate study years, immersing himself in college culture, including season tickets for Wolverine football games. After retirement, despite being a Gator fan, he loved wearing his navy Michigan shirt with the big yellow M.
Chen-Chi is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Pi-Yung Wang Hsu and their three children: Dr. Sandra Werbel (Brian) of Gainesville, FL, Michael Hsu of Gotha, FL, and Daniel Hsu (Stephanie) of Bradenton, FL. Chen-Chi also leaves behind his grandchildren: Dr. Tyler Werbel, Megan Werbel, Samantha Hsu, Christopher Hsu, Zoe Hsu, Lilly Hsu, Cassady Hsu, Daniel Hsu Jr, Alexander Hsu, and Benjamin Hsu.
A devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather, “Akong” will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday March 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel, 823 NW 143rd St. Newberry, FL.
