Charles Patrick Brown's Obituary
Charles Patrick “Pat” Brown, 86 of Gainesville, Florida. entered into eternal life on Tuesday, February 02, 2016. Charles unconditionally loved his family and friends through his faith filled journey. He always projected a positive nature and would find a silver lining in challenging situations. He was a dedicated husband and father who assisted wherever necessary in a quiet, unselfish manner.
Charles Patrick was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1929. He graduated from North Catholic High School, Pittsburg, PA in 1947. He joined the US Air Force in 1948. In 1952, he was stationed to Ankara, Turkey and while living there, he met his future wife, Bozena Hybsova, of Czechoslovakia. In 1955, they returned to the USA and were married in Titusville, Florida before moving to Gainesville, Florida. He studied and graduated with Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Florida. He retired after 30 years of teaching at various institutions.
Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as entertaining, traveling, reading, gardening, golf, basketball, music, and games. Charles & Bozena hosted numerous foreign exchange students. They were founding members of Holy Faith Church where they both continued to serve. Charles was a Lector, Director of Altar servers, Usher, Eucharistic minister, CCD Teacher, involved in the Cursillo Movement, and always volunteered wherever there was a need.
Charles is survived by his son, James A. Brown and wife, Perihan Brown (Gainesville, FL), daughter, Patricia A. Matthews and husband, Jesse L. Matthews (Gainesville, FL), grandchildren, Yasmin S. Brown, Christopher J. Walker, Chad M. Walker, DeAnna M. Schlott, and great grandchildren, Abigale M. Hardee, Chad Walker Jr., Ryder L. Walker, Rylee B. Walker; brothers: William “Bill”, Tom, Mike; sisters: Dorothy “Dot” Dempsey, Margretta Mills, Kathleen Woods. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife, Bozena “Bo” Brown, of 59 years, his parents, John Stephen Florian Brown and Dorothy Bernadette Brown, and his brothers, Paul and Johnny.
Vigil will be Friday, February 12, 2016 from 7:30 – 8:30 pm at Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, Florida 32607, 352-376-5405.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 9:00 am at Holy Faith Catholic Church. Followed by a reception. Future interment will follow in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
