Charity Hatch Blomeley

Charity Hatch Blomeley, died Monday morning, November 16, 2015, at her residence in Gainesville after an extensive battle with Ocular Melanoma. Born May 23, 1941 in Hartford, CT, she was the oldest of three children born to Robert Gaskill Hatch and Ethelwynne Duryee Hatch. The family soon moved to Pinos Altos, NM then to Flagstaff, AZ. When she was 15, the family moved to N. Redington Beach, FL. She graduated from Boca Ciega HS in 1959. While attending the University of Florida she met her husband to be, Stan Blomeley. They were married for 52 years. They lived in Warner Robins, GA while Stan was in the Air Force and returned to Gainesville in 1966. Stan earned his BFA at UF, Charity worked part-time for Sears and cared for their two young daughters. Next, she worked with her husband at his studio; Photography By Stan. When her daughters “left the nest” she worked as a secretary at UF first in IFAS-International Programs and then at the UF Brain Institute. She received great satisfaction working with administrators, researchers, co-workers and graduate students. Charity was actively involved through the years with her church Trinity United Methodist, then Newberry United Methodist. She was part of the Finance Committee for both and especially enjoyed singing with the choirs. She happily volunteered her time for local organizations including Girl Scouts, The Gainesville Youth Chorus, Prime Time at the Senior Center, The Al. Co. Black History Task Force and various Literacy Programs. She easily and readily made new friends. She enjoyed travel, nature and spending time with the many people she cared about. We will all dearly miss her. Charity is survived by her loving husband, Stan Blomeley; two daughters, Michele Thomas (Bryan) and Christine Bay (Tim); six grandchildren, Jacquelyn Carter Bayne (Forrest), Matthew Baez (Eunice Jin), Brandon Bay, Lauren Bay, Dylan Thomas, Emily Thomas; a Great Grandson Lucas Baez; her brother, Robert Hatch; sister, Martha Shad; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to Haven Hospice and Hospice Home-care for their compassionate care and guidance, which fulfilled her wish to be cared for at home. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 29, 2015, 4:00 at Newberry United Methodist Church. (24845 West Newberry Road, Newberry, FL 32669.) The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Newberry UMC, The Gainesville Youth Chorus, Alachua County Nature Conservancy or a charity of your choice.
