Cathy Laverne Bembry's Obituary
Cathy passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, after a long illness. She was born on December 13, 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida, and spent much of her life in Brooker, Florida, a place she called home.
Before her illness, Cathy owned and operated a hair salon in Brooker, where she was well known for her kindness, her welcoming spirit, and her genuine care for everyone who walked through the door. Cathy never met a stranger. She had a special way of connecting with people, often striking up conversations wherever she went, and she had a deep love for children—always taking time to speak to them and offering a kind compliment.
Cathy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. Lonnie and Vivian Parker of Brooker, Florida; her mother, Shirley Parker Moxley of Brooker, Florida; and her beloved son, Craig.
She is survived by her three sons, Paul, Clint, and John Jr.; her sister, Cynthia Williams, and her husband, James Williams; her brother, John Moxley, and his wife, Julie Moxley, of Gainesville; her stepsister, Audrey “Sissy” Moxley Adams of High Springs; her stepbrother, Travis Moxley of Marianna, Florida; her aunt and uncle, Glenda and Wilbur Andrews of Brooker, Florida; and many cousins whom she loved dearly.
Cathy had a tender heart, especially for animals. Any stray that wandered onto her doorstep found food, care, and love. Her home was always a place of comfort—for people and animals alike.
Family meant everything to Cathy. She looked forward to family gatherings and cherished the time spent visiting with her loved ones. When her health allowed, she enjoyed being outdoors, working in her yard and tending to her garden. On quieter days inside, she found joy in crocheting, listening to music, reading her Bible, and solving word puzzles.
Those who loved Cathy find comfort in knowing that she is now in Jesus’ loving arms, free from pain and suffering, and at peace.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 A. M., in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, with Rev. Calvin Carr, officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery, LaCrosse.
