Cathleen "Kay" Putman's Obituary
Cathleen “Kay” Putman, 82, redeemed Christ-follower, devoted matriarch, and avid quilter, died Sunday, December 24, 2023, concluding her earthly journey. Mrs. Putman was born in Fort Royal, Virginia on October 21, 1941, to the late Carl and Carrie Bateman and moved to South Florida as a teenager. She met the love of her life, Emory B. Putman, Sr. at age 15 and wed on July 21, 1961, at the age of 20. She was a resourceful, supportive, and caring mother to her two children, their friends, and grandchildren. Kay worked outside the home as a bookkeeper for several firms throughout her life but loved to pour herself into creative expressions in her free time with sewing, crocheting, cake decorating, painting, gardening, crafting, and ultimately quilting. Kay loved sharing her gifts and skills, especially with her family of faith; giving a quilt in Jesus’ name to a person who was in need meant so much to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Colleen Jacobovitz, brother James Bateman, and husband of 57 years Mr. Emory B. Putman, Sr. in 2019. She is survived by her two children, Emory B. Putman, Jr. (Kelly) of Kansas City, MO, Linda P. Felton (Doug) of Alachua, FL; six grandchildren, Emory B. Putman, III (Teri Beth) of Luling, LA, Rachael Triche (Trey) of Destrehan, LA, Sara Sibley (Tim) of LaPlace, LA, Caleb Putman of Kansas City, MO, Ryan Felton of Great Falls, MT, and Hale Felton of Tampa, FL; six great-grandchildren, Charlie, John Paul, and Kalliope Putman, Lucille and Avard Sibley, and Sampson Triche; and her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Chuck Bernal of Ft. Worth, TX, and sister-in-law, Kathy Bateman of Phoenix, AZ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Alachua - 14005 NW 146 Avenue, Alachua. Interment will follow at Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
