Carolyn Larsen's Obituary
Carolyn Larsen, age 90, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Sunday, January 1, 2023.
She was born April 20, 1932 in Alachua County, Florida to Willard H. and Mary E. Todd Hunter.
She graduated from Alachua High School in 1950. A year later, in 1951, she married her
husband of 51 years, Hubert B. Larsen. They went on to have three daughters, whom Carolyn
loved unconditionally.
Carolyn was raised in, and was a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she served
in many capacities and was very active as long as she was able. She was a WMU leader,
Sunday school teacher, kept nursery and would jump in wherever needed. Her love for her
church was evident to all who knew her and she wanted to make sure that everyone knew
Jesus and His love.
After Carolyn raised her girls, she began to drive a school bus for Alachua County Schools. She
met two of her best friends, Peggy and Margie during her bus driving years. They enjoyed
driving many field trips together and enjoyed many laughs on those trips. She retired after 27
years of driving a school bus.
The school bus schedule was perfect for Carolyn. It gave her all summer to travel, and boy, did
she travel! It started with all the trips she and Hubert took with their girls. They enjoyed many
summers at the beach and the lake, and road trips to see family in Louisiana. She and her
sister, Louise, traveled to all lower 48 states and Canada and Mexico, all by car. They would get
in the car during the summer and set off on their adventure, many times being gone for three
weeks at a time. Often they would grab their aunts, Caris and Dot, along the way. During the
spring, Carolyn would take her grandchildren to the mountains. In her later years, her daughter,
Terry, took up traveling with her. Traveling with her family made her happy and created many
memories that will be forever treasured.
Her house was never empty. It was filled with her nieces, nephews, her daughters’ friends, her
grandchildrens’ friends, and all the kids around whom she loved. She made sure that they all
had food to eat. As any good southern lady, you never went hungry in her house. She came to
be known by many names; Mama, Granny, MyMy, MeeMaw and Auntie. All terms of
endearment for the one who loved them all.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Harris, Terry Larsen, Anita Larsen; niece that was like a daughter, Kathy Hunt Graham; grandchildren, Summer Harris Jeter, Joshua Harris; great
grandchildren, Tyler Jeter, Zoe Jeter, Addison Jeter; sister-in-law, Judy Hunter; nieces and
nephews, Robbie Hunter, Dale Hunter, Gerry Hunter, Deana Kaye Deasey, Brenda Hardee, Lisa
Logan, Brian S Neal, Jr. and Mike Larsen, and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert B. Larsen, her parents and siblings, Louise
Arnold, W. R. “Sonny” Hunter, and George W. Hunter, a niece, Lisa Green and nephew, Gary Hunter.
A graveside service will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church
Cemetery near LaCrosse, with Gerry Hunter officiating. Visitation will be one half hour prior to
the service at the cemetery beginning at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends Sunday,
January 8, 2023 from 3-5:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street.
