Carolyn Hinson Lakes' Obituary
Carolyn Hinson Lakes died October 8, 2017. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Lakes was born on May 22, 1932, in Nashville, Tennessee, to James Edward and Mildred Womack Scobey. She moved to Gainesville as a newlywed in 1955. Mrs. Lakes was a graduate of David Lipscomb University and attended the University of Florida College of Nursing. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Memphis City Schools, Storter Printing Company, and the Guardian Ad Litem program with the Florida Courts.
Mrs. Lakes was an active member of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Starke, Florida, and, formerly, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Gainesville where she had been a choir member, chalice bearer, member of the vestry and St. Elizabeth Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Kuell Hinson, a research agronomist with USDA. Survivors include her husband since 2012, Major (ret.) Jack B. Lakes, USMC; four children, Edward Kuell Hinson (Angelynne), Jane Hinson Wald (James), Martha Hinson Booth (George), Amy Hinson; five grandchildren, Caroline Hinson, Marianne Wald, Samuel Booth (Rhianna), Joseph Booth (Addie), Nicholas Hinson; great-granddaughter Eleanor Booth; brothers Joseph Scobey and William Scobey. She also leaves many friends and extended family, including the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of her husband Jack Lakes.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 10, 2017, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 212 N Church St, Starke, FL 32091, with Fr. Bert Daily as celebrant. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, 401 SE 21 Ave, Gainesville, FL 32641.
