Carolyn Marie Terrone Johnston's Obituary
Carolyn Marie Terrone Johnston, age 90, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Born on September 2, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, Carolyn was the daughter of Rocco and Adele Sodaro Terrone. She moved to Fort Lauderdale at a young age where she had fond memories growing up throughout the 40s and early 50s. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, where she developed a lifelong passion for the arts, especially painting. Among her proudest achievements were her portraits of past University of Florida presidents, which are displayed in Emerson Hall. She was also a proud co-owner of Johnston Photography, where she worked alongside her husband, Sam, and her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Yvonne.
Carolyn will be remembered for her creativity, warmth, and enduring love of arts and crafts. Her vibrant spirit touched the lives of many, and her legacy lives on through her family and her artwork.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel William Johnston III.
She is survived by her two sons, Samuel William Johnston IV and his wife Deanna Johnston, David Johnston and his wife Yvonne Johnston of Gainesville; her sister, Roberta “Joy” Terrone Kelly; and two cherished granddaughters, Arianna Marie Johnston and Marissa Adel Johnston; one great granddaughter Evangeline Marie Curry; and one niece Dana Lynn Loudermilk; and two nephews, Michael Kelly, Joseph Kelly and lifelong friend, Lalla Rook Tompkins.
A Graveside service will be held Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, 401 SE 21st Ave, Gainesville. Please visit her memorial page at www.williamsthomasfuneralhome.com.
