Carol Sue Ropp's Obituary
Carol Sue Ropp, age 74, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Haven Hospice after a 2-year battle with a lung disease.
Carol was born March 25, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois but lived in Moweaqua, Illinois until she moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1974. She was a Gainesville resident for 46 years.
Carol was a sweet, spunky, determined, and supportive lady who loved unconditionally to the end. She would light up any room she walked into with her quiet gracefulness. Carol loved to spend time with family, window-shop, and enjoy twirl ice cream. Carol loved traveling and going out to eat with family and friends whenever she could. She loved to watch her daughter and granddaughters play tennis and volleyball as well as music. She was a very proud band groupie of her grandsons’ band and back in the sports days, she could be seen on many sidelines.
Carol worked at SIMEDHealth for 24 years as a medical billing specialist. She loved working there with her work family until her health forced her to retire earlier this year.
Carol spent over 30 years with the love of her life and fiancé, Michael Noble, until his passing in 2012. They were affectionately known by many Alachua county residents as "the moonwalk couple”.
Carol is survived by her children, Rich Ropp and wife Michelle Ropp with Trenton and Tanner Ropp,
Sherry Skinner and husband Bob Skinner with Haley and Shannon Skinner, Pam Fortin and husband Gary Fortin with Justin and Sarah Fortin, Susan Bissell and husband Chuck with Charlie, Molly and Henry Bissell and Jennifer Noble; brother, Ron and Carol Smull of Moweaqua, IL, and son Eric; sister-in-law, Tammy Smull and children Harris and Mackenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Smull, Jr. and Violet Harris Smull; her brother, Ken Smull, and nephew, Rodney.
A private graveside service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
