Carol Ann Laine's Obituary
Carol Ann Laine, age 68, passed away on October 20, 2016 from complications following a stroke at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida with her two daughters next to her. She was born on May Day and raised in Charles City, Iowa by her late parents John O. and Esther M. Gordon.
She was a graduate of Charles City Community High School, and she excelled in every job she held which ranged from the owner of a typing service to Executive Assistant to the Executive Director of North Central Florida Regional Planning Council wherein she stayed the longest and formed long-lasting friendships. In her younger years she was an amazing tennis player; throughout her life she was an avid reader of mysteries, and spent many evenings watching British comedies and detective stories. She also had a knack for finding beautiful antiques and decorations to make her house a wonderful home. Her most recent favorite activities were walking her dog Sophie and creating scrapbooks of the people closest to her, especially her four grandchildren.
Her living, immediate family includes her brother David Gordon and her children Stacy Gordon and Jennifer Laine.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday October 29, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of which she was a devoted member for nearly 40 years, located at 1700 NW 34th St., Gainesville, FL, 32605. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. and a pot-luck lunch at noon. An additional commemoration with her extended family will take place in her hometown, and she will be interred next to her parents and grandparents at Howard Cemetery in Elma, IA. Flowers may be sent to Williams-Thomas Funeral Home in Gainesville, and donations may be sent to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Simple words cannot express the magnitude of her selflessness and the impact of her expertly kind acts and bright personality. She will truly be missed every day.
