Carl Thomas Wynne's Obituary
With a heavy heart, the family of Carl Thomas Wynne announce his passing. Following a long battle with cancer on and off for over 20 years, he put up a good fight until the end. Carl passed away on March 3, 2024, at ET York Haven Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, service, and quiet strength.
Carl was born to Thomas B. and Evie Mae Hall Wynne on October 25, 1937 in Quitman, GA attending Quitman high school and growing up with best friends Ed Morse, Charles Yawn, and Rodney Long. Carl enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1957 and served as an LCpl (E-3) stationed in Hawaii most of his service time, then Camp Lejeune, NC before an honorable discharge in 1959. Returning to Georgia, he joined the Albany Police Department. Carl met his wife, Anne, in 1961 in Jacksonville, FL and they were married on 12/02/1963, celebrating 62 yrs. and 3 months of marriage, love and family. During vacation time they loved to travel and traveled all over the US visiting all states except Alaska. From this union they had two sons, Tom in January of ’72 and R.C. in Dec. of ’73. In 1964 Carl and Anne moved to Gainesville where he began a 23 yr. career with the Gainesville Police Department, riding the police motorcycle for 13 yrs. of those years before moving to the Detective Division. Following retirement from GPD he joined the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for several years. Retiring again, he then worked as a Court Security Officer with the US Marshall’s Office. Carl enjoyed his law enforcement work and made many life-long friends. Above all, his family came first. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed hunting and camping with Tom and special friends in Possum Run Hunting Club in GA. He loved the special time he spent with RC. Among many of their trips together, they took one trip by train to NC and another by car to Key West. He especially enjoyed hitting the road on Saturday mornings finding bargains at garage sales.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law Linda Wynn.
He is survived by his wife Anne, sons, Thomas C. (Tabbie) and Randall C., and grandchildren Matthew and Erin. Also surviving are his brother, Larry Wayne Wynn, extended family, Oscar (Judy), Freddie (Janet), Eva (Bill), Hendrick (Nellie), and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Carl will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and good friend to those who knew him. May he find eternal peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father, and may we find comfort in the cherished memories we shared with him during his time on earth. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Carolyn at Haven Hospice for her kindness and tender care to Carl.
A Celebration of Life with military honors and masonic service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00PM at Williams-Thomas Westarea Chapel 823 NW 143rd St. Newberry, FL., with a reception to follow.
