C. Max Mathis' Obituary
Connie Max Mathis, 80 of Gainesville, Florida died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, Florida, following a long illness.
He was born May 25, 1933 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Manuel M. and Clara M. Holman Mathis. He served in the United States Air Force, 33rd Air Division. After his service, he attended North Texas State in Denton, Texas, before returning to Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1982 he moved to Florida, where he lived the rest of his life. He was an avid Gator fan, and past president of the Manatee County Gator Booster Club. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Simmons Mathis; daughter, Pamela Ann Mathis, son, Paul Hayden Mathis, both of Albuquerque, NM; step-daughter, Belynda E. Williams of Naples, FL; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Mathis.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at Westside Baptist Church, 10000 West Newberry Road, Gainesville, with Dr. Phil Young and Rev. Lawrence Cole officiating. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorials to Westside Baptist Church, 10000 West Newberry Road, Gainesville, FL 32606 or to the University Athletic Association, Post Office Box 14485, Gainesville, FL 32604.
