Thank you for your great contribution as my advisor at UF and for your friendship and kindness. May God bless us with his love. Ivo E. Moroni.
Byron was the first person who gave me hope and confidence to pursue my dreams in a foreign country across the globe. He was not only instrumental in my PhD education but as a very dear friend as well throughout my time in Gainesville. Byron and Margarete always make us feel close to home especially during the holidays. I enjoyed working with him on projects, taking his classes, and appreciated the best reviews and confidence he instilled in me to achieve my next goal in life. Even after retirement, Byron and Margaret tried their best helping my daughter to settle in to pursue her PhD there. His acedemic excellence, his sincerity and caring will always have a very special place in my heart and will forever be remembered and dearly missed. by Julie & family

I was blessed to have attended the University of Florida and to have been taught and touched by two great Byrons-Byron Spangler and Byron Ruth. I was fortunate to have been a student of Dr. Ruth and to have called him a friend in later years. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and colleagues.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Margarete and the Ruth family.

Dr Ruth was a friend and a great educator. His interest in his students was always genuine coupled with an openness and interest in his students. I was fortunate to know such and outstanding professional. He was an excellent representative of our Civil Engineering profession. Bryon...impacted so many of us. You will be truly missed.

Margarete,
I was just informed by Charlie Wallace of Byron's passing and wanted to express my condolences to the family and let you know how much he will be missed and meant to me. Although I never had one of his classes, we did have many "asphalt" conversations at professional meetings and Gator parties (with a good beer in our hands). I venture to say we had enough of these conversations for me to be able to claim Byron as my "asphalt" mentor and professor. What a great professional and wonderful person he was. Despite the fact that engineers can "talk shop" all day long, every conversation I had with Byron began or ended with family, both his and mine and not just for conversation's sake. He truly loved you and his family, and was sincerely interested in me and my family. This sincere interest in the lives and families of many other younger professionals is one of the many character traits that made him special to many.
God Be With You and Your Family,
Gary Price
A kinder, friendlier man you not meet. I am proud to have called Byron and Margarete friends. In sympathy, Charlie Wallace
