Buddie Ray Cosby's Obituary
Buddie Ray Cosby was born to R.B, and Opal Cosby on October 20,1936 in Sweetwater Texas. He attended Big Spring High School and played linebacker and fullback for the Steer football team. The team went to the state finals before losing to Port Neches in the championship game. Buddie was regarded as perhaps the greatest linebacker in school history.
He served in the Army from 1954 until 1957 when he received a football scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University. He received the District 7 all star guard award in 1959 and the Hardest Blocker and Tackler award twice.
Buddie graduated from Eastern June 2, 1960, and began his professional career in law enforcement with the New Mexico State Police. In 1963 he joined the Secret Service as a Special Agent and worked in Utah, Texas, Washington D.C. and Florida. He worked with several presidents and served on President Lyndon Johnsons Detail. He retired in 1984 as the Agent in Charge of the Jacksonville, Florida office.
Buddie then went to work as an investigator for the Inspector General State of Florida and retired again in 1999 to pursue his love of reading and gardening.
Buddie is survived by his wife, Amanda Cosby, his daughter and son in law, TD and Cynthia McDonald, four grandchildren: Stephen Lott, Kevin and Jordan McDonald, Katherine McDonald and her fiancée Shelby Blanchard, Brigid McDonald and her fiancée Sky Wilburn and Buddies ex-wife Pat Cosby. He was proceeded in death by Bert Lee Cosby, brother and Steve Cosby, son.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Forest Meadows East Cemetery, 3700 SE Hawthorne Rd.
