Brian Patrick Nilon's Obituary
Brian Patrick Nilon, 50, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on January 19, 2026.
Brian was born on June 17th, 1975, in Gainesville, FL as the oldest son of Jim and Leslie Nilon. As a child, he moved with his family to Bloomington, Tampa, and Miami, and then settled back in Gainesville where he attended PK Yonge and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1994. He has lived and worked in Gainesville, Florida for the last 35 years.
Brian was a loving and kind son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew. He cared deeply for his family and enjoyed all the wonderful and numerous friendships he made. He embodied some of the finest qualities humanity has to offer. His kindness and generosity touched everyone he met, and his gentle spirit, playful humor, and youthful energy made him especially beloved by children and pets. He had an infectious laugh, and a disarming, down-to-earth quality about him. Brian gave the best bear hugs, embracing, and sometimes lifting you off the ground in the process. He had a way of welcoming people swiftly and kindly, ensuring no one ever felt like a stranger.
Brian truly had a heart of gold. Many use the phrase lightly, but Brian would quite literally give you the shirt off his back. He was extremely generous with his time and many gifts. He was very capable with his hands and volunteered his time in service of others often, including with Trinity United Methodist Church, building and fixing homes in Appalachia. He also helped friends and family with their home construction projects, but mostly he just loved being around people and helping out. He was a masterful chef with a discerning palate, and he enjoyed the banter that comes with working in restaurants and cooking with family and close friends. Ever generous with his creations, he delighted in sharing whatever he prepared with anyone nearby; friends and neighbors often benefited from an impromptu cooking session.
His death and our vision of him having moved beyond this world of suffering enable us to remember him as we loved him best. We remember him with a smile on his face and a plate of food in his hand to offer each and every one of us who come in the door of the party that he will be hosting in the far beyond. His kindness, humor, and generosity remain his lasting legacy. He will be forever loved and deeply missed.
A Service of Life and Resurrection honoring Brian’s life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Ave., Gainesville, FL with Reverand Steve Price officiating. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to NAMI of Gainesville at www.namigainesville.org.
