Brian Thomas Angell's Obituary
Brian Thomas Angell, 74, longtime resident of Cross Creek, Florida, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from injuries received in bicycle accident.
Mr. Angell was born on April 27, 1944 in Kingston, New York to the late Edwin and Elizabeth Angell. As a young man, Brian enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. He moved to Cross Creek in 1971, when, along with his brothers, they owned and operated Cross Creek Lodge. Brian was a very talented fisherman, founding the local Bass club, helped in founding the bass fish tagging program, and authored a book, “Fishing Inside Florida”. He worked at the lodge, running the bait shop, assisting the FWC with various programs involving the local lakes, anything that needed doing. After the family sold the Lodge, he began working with the state of Florida, as a tour guide at the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic Home. He was a volunteer fireman with the Cross Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Cross Creek Baptist Church. Brian loved animals, and none more than his cats.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter John Angell, in 2007.
He is survived by a brother Edwin “Ted” (Elisabeth) Angell, of Blaine, WA, and by a sister-in-law, Mickey Angell, of Cross Creek; nieces and nephews, Steven T. Angell, Leanne A. Alexander, Yvonne E. Angell, and Cheryl Beth Jones, along with a host of extended family.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10:00 A. M., in the Cross Creek Baptist Church, 18921 S CR 325, Hawthorne. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends for half an hour, prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Operation Catnip of Gainesville, P.O. Box 141023, Gainesville, FL 32614, or to Alachua County Humane Society, 4205 NW 6th St., Gainesville, Florida 32609.
